PART TWO: Microcosmic Collectivity, Redefining Capital, and the Lines of Exchange

WOMB is a first installment microcosm of a greater movement Joui would like to spearhead.  In this vision, she would travel as a consultant and aid in the implementation of these collectives in different communities. It is with the philosophy that all provocations of grand social change, must be founded locally. Ideally, this would take form in the acquisition of property, whereby all artists/healers have a specified form of involvement, that allows them to be an investor, and co-owner of the shared space.  This, destroying the possible contention of authoritarian control over the affairs of a joint endeavor, providing home rights for artists, forming community healing outreach, and resigning from the sole use of monetary means for ownership. Although money has proved to be a much easier and straight forward transaction, it has eradicated much possibility for interpersonal responsibility. In addition, it demarcates who has access to sustenance whilst living as a creator or healer. 

We must restore an ethic of being indebted to one another and cultivate a climate of mutual aid, collective care, and form conditions for planetary/human evolution. In an exercise of reliance, we can regenerate the long lost notion of individual obligation; to community building, co-habitation, and sharing in the makings of a small scale society. If we are to look to environments that do not rely on systemic means for survival, either as a result of tradition, or by disenfranchisement, we see much more intact and thriving communal operations.  This love is housed in the fact that everyone becomes necessary to one another for the ecosystem to function. It is an immensely intriguing premise, signaling to the essential nature, and vitalness of art, and the holistic practice, for the human escapade. 

In the effort to create this climate, Joui will be utilizing propositions of a sacred economy, set forth by Charles Eisenstein.  He comes as a grand liberator, to challenge us to redefine capital, terms of exchange, and how we determine value; whether that is by labor, care, and/or community participation. Overtime, money has dominated what individuals are allowed to own and as the main form of capital. However, there exist immeasurable ways in which time, effort, and talent can be implemented to determine involvement, and ownership.  WOMB is leaning into this experiment, and the birthing process to understanding the protocols of this shape of cooperation. 

For, in it’s propulsion, WOMB is a provocation. It is a breeding ground for progressive thought, whereby we may understand in real time, and with tangible visual proof, how to subsist off alternative means of life.  We can grow our own food in urban spaces without dramatic or expensive ensembles, we can support artistry and healing, we can form individual accountability to the whole, and we can nurture a no waste environment, respecting the earth with the reutilization of all materials entering our space.  There is, and will always be a synergy between social change, art, and healing, it is simply locating the ways in which we may sew the revolution, with the gifts, roles, and ideas we feed in union.

We are bridging the socio-ecological and artistic practice, in a variety of forms, and continually conjuring in new and old traditions. It is with the intention of vibrancy, community,and in spirit of sparking intellectual discourses to transform our collective understandings. The first event at WOMB, the entire house was made into an art installation, including the bedrooms of all residents. It was a homage to a love of curating spaces and singing to the notion of art as being a practice. It is a way of existence, not solely housed in a created object or finalized manifestation.

Through it’s inception, WOMB has embodied this philosophy, nurturing a free form environment. We have had cocoa ceremonies, incense workshops, women’s circles, rapé ceremonies, photo shoots, and performance art pieces in action. All of this will be coming to an apex on September 19th, when we host a conglomeration event of live music, art practice/ performances, the selling of in-house handcrafted arts/ jewelry, and ceremony. We hope our aspirations here may inspire transcendence of our current system and muse others to engage, reform, and innovate a new integrated way of living. All operations to be in service, and in spirit of restoring harmony with our natural selves, and our Mother sanctuary.

WOMB es un microcosmos de primera entrega de un movimiento mayor que a Joui le gustaría encabezar. Es con la filosofía que todas las provocaciones de un gran cambio social deben fundamentarse localmente. Idealmente, esto tomaría forma en la adquisición de una propiedad, en la que todos los artistas / curanderos tienen una forma específica de participación, que les permitan ser inversionistas y copropietarios del espacio compartido. Esto, destruyendo la posible disputa del control autoritario sobre los asuntos de un esfuerzo conjunto, proporcionando derechos domésticos para los artistas, formando un alcance comunitario de curación y renunciando al uso exclusivo de medios monetarios para la propiedad. Es una premisa inmensamente intrigante, que señala la naturaleza esencial y vitalidad del arte y la práctica holística para la escapada humana.

En el esfuerzo por crear este clima, Joui utilizará propuestas de una economía sagrada, expuestas por Charles Eisenstein. Viene como un gran libertador, para desafiarnos a redefinir el capital, los términos de intercambio y cómo determinamos el valor; ya sea con trabajo, cuidados y / o participación comunitaria. Con el tiempo, el dinero ha dominado lo que los individuos pueden poseer y como principal forma de capital. Sin embargo, existen inconmensurables formas de implementar el tiempo, el esfuerzo y el talento para determinar la participación y la propiedad. WOMB se está inclinando por este experimento y el proceso de parto para comprender los protocolos de esta forma de cooperación.

En su propulsión, WOMB es una provocación. Es un caldo de cultivo para el pensamiento progresista, mediante el cual podemos entender en tiempo real, y con una prueba visual tangible, cómo subsistir con medios alternativos de vida. Podemos cultivar nuestra propia comida en espacios urbanos sin conjuntos dramáticos o costosos, podemos apoyar el arte y la curación, podemos formar una responsabilidad individual para el todo y podemos cultivar un ambiente sin desperdicios, respetando la tierra con la reutilización de todos los materiales que ingresan nuestro espacio. Hay y siempre habrá una sinergia entre el cambio social, el arte y la curación, es simplemente ubicar las formas en las que podemos coser la revolución, con los dones, roles e ideas que alimentamos en unión.

Estamos uniendo la práctica socioecológica y artística, en una variedad de formas, y continuamente evocando tradiciones nuevas y antiguas. Es con la intención de vitalidad, comunidad y con el espíritu de provocar discursos intelectuales para transformar nuestra comprensión colectiva. El primer evento en WOMB, toda la casa se convirtió en una instalación de arte, incluidos los dormitorios de todos los residentes. Fue un homenaje al amor por curar espacios y cantar a la noción del arte como práctica. Es una forma de existencia, no alojada únicamente en un objeto creado o manifestación finalizada.

Esperamos que nuestras aspiraciones aquí inspiren a otros a participar, reformar e innovar una nueva forma de vida integrada. Todas las operaciones deben estar al servicio y con el espíritu de restaurar la armonía con nuestro ser natural y nuestro santuario de la Madre Tierra.
